Déor (TA 2699-2718) was the seventh King of Rohan.
[edit] Biography
Born in TA 2644, Déor was the son of Goldwine. Déor was born during the reign of his great-great-grandfather Aldor the Old. Déor's birth in TA 2644, created a unique situation within the House of Eorl, with his birth five sucessive generations were living simulataneously in one royal house:
- Aldor, (TA 2544-2645)
- Fréa, (TA 2570-2659)
- Frëawine, (TA 2594-2680)
- Goldwine, (TA 2619-2699)
- Déor, (TA 2644 -2718)
In TA 2699 King Goldwine died aged eighty, after a reign of nineteen years, and Déor aged fifty-five became King of Rohan.
During Déor's realm the Dunlendings began to cause trouble again; they had slowly returned to Rohan under Goldwine's reign, after Aldor had driven them out long before. Déor rode north to fight them, but he learned that the Gondorian fortress of Isengard had fallen under Dunlendish rule. Isengard was impregnable, so Déor had to accept for the time being a northern threat to his realm.
Déor died in TA 2718 at the age of seventy-four after a troublesome rule of nineteen years, and was followed by his son Gram.
