Benedict Cumberbatch is an actor who provides the voice and motion capture for the dragon Smaug in The Hobbit. He voices The Necromancer.

Benedict was born in London, England in July 19, 1976 to Wanda Ventham (an actress) and Timothy Carlton (an actor) and is known for his roles in the theatre. He played Tesman in Hedda Gabler at the Almeida Theatre on 16 March 2005 for which he won the Laurence Olivier Award.

In Television he is best known for playing Stephen Hawking in Hawking and Sherlock Holmes in the BBC's Sherlock (co-starring Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson) and in film he was William Pitt the Younger in the film Amazing Grace for which he was nominated for the London Film Critics Circle and John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness.
