Barbara Strachey (b. July 17, 1912 - d. October 15, 1999) was British broadcaster and writer. She was the author of the atlas book Journeys of Frodo.

BiographyEdit

Barbara was born to Oliver Strachey, a skilled cryptographer in both World War I and World War II and Ray Strachey, a painter. She attended schools in Switzerland, Vienna, and finally Oxford. She worked for the BBC for a time. After a divorce from two husbands and the death of her brother she moved into a small house in Jericho in 1975. It was here that she took up professional writing publishing her first book Remarkable Relations in 1980.

Afterwards, she became interested in the works J.R.R. Tolkien and worked on drawing maps concerning Frodo's travels publishing Journeys of Frodo in 1981. Afterwards, she did genealogy works starting with her own family-line. She died of natural causes.

She had one son to Olaf Hultin, a husband she divorced in 1937.

The cartography of Journeys of Frodo was of good quality but did not do as well as Karen Wynn Fonstad's Atlas of Middle-earth.
