Sir Antony Sher (born June 14, 1949) is a veteran British actor who played Thráin II, father of Thorin II Oakenshield, in the extended edition of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

In the early 1970's, Sher belonged to a small group of "anarchist" actors and writers working at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre, which also included Bernard Hill.

A prolific actor on both stage and screen, his most recent stage performance was the lead role of Willy Loman for the Royal Shakespeare Company's revival of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman (co-starring Sir Christopher Lee's niece, British actress Harriet Walter).

  • He and his partner, Gregory Doran, with whom he frequently collaborates, were one of the first couples to register for a civil partnership in the United Kingdom.
