Annie Lennox is an award-winning Scottish singer and songwriter who has sung in many different musical genres since 1972. Even aside from music, she is highly recognized in Great Britain as an active humanitarian and activist.

In 2004, she composed the song "Into the West" for the soundtrack of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It became the film's initial credit song. The song alone resulted in Lennox winning both a Golden Globe and 2004's Academy Award for Best Original Song.
