On March 7, TA 3019, Anborn reported to his captain, Faramir, that he had seen a strange creature scurry up a tree and also hissed at him. Anborn theorized that it might have been a large squirrel of Mirkwood, although he didn't think that possibility was likely, as the creature he saw was black and had no tail. However, under law of Gondor that no animal of Ithilien should be harmed for any reason, Anborn left the creature alone.
It was also Anborn who spotted the same creature, Gollum, in the Forbidden Pool, and then reported it to Faramir at once.
