Aldburg (OE. 'Old Fortress') was one of the oldest settlements of Middle-earth in Rohan. It was recorded to have been built by Eorl in the region known as the Folde, some miles to the southeast of Edoras. Though he and his family moved to Edoras early in Rohan's history, Aldburg remained a seat of noblemen. At the time of the War of the Ring, it was the home of king Théoden's nephew Éomer, who was Third Marshal of the Mark, and heir of the Kingship of Rohan himself.
